Shopping for grocery is time-consuming task and if you looking for specialty grocery items for your Indian cooking it become much more tricky and hectic. No more driving around busy streets of Fordsburg or Laudium area and wasting precious weekends hours shopping for grocery. India Store is South Africa’s first online Indian grocery store.

We had a nice chit-chat with  India Store Founders over the cup of steaming Indian style ginger tea, here excerpts of our chat.

What was the Idea behind India Store?
We launched India Store with a simple thought in mind ‘Make busy life easy’. Why not save time by just ordering it online and getting it at your doorstep? Being busy couple, shopping for Indian Grocery was always a task. When we discuss our problem with friends we realize we are not alone. Indians living in Johannesburg spend a lot of their weekend time shopping for Indian grocery items. Prices and quality of such items vary from shop to shop so consumer spends a lot of time looking for best deal and good quality. Time and energy spent on shopping for Indian Grocery was a consistent complain amongst busy professionals. Most of these markets are located in busy streets, driving, and finding the parking is not always easy that makes it more difficult and not a very pleasant shopping experience. We decided to launch India Store to provide a place for authentic Indian spices and grains and other grocery items. We sale quality products in value price, and deliver within 48hrs. Our customers love the fresh delivery of vegetables and grocery item direct to their door.

When did you launch your start up?
11 April 2015

Who is your target audience?
People those love to cook Indian Food.
How is the Market Response?
Response it’s getting is very warm and encouraging, and we are making a presence mainly based on word of mouth.

How is it funded?
Currently it is a bootstrapped venture looking to raise funds soon.

Who are your competitors, local and international?
Here in South Africa, Currently we are kind of first of its kind.
At International Level there is lot big companies coming up especially in India so far they have not reached SA market.
What makes your start-up/site different?
We changing the way people think about grocery shopping, it need not to be a time-consuming task. We are helping people to focus on things that are more important and leave grocery shopping on us.
Its disruptive in a way as it’s different from traditional way of selling Indian Grocery. Indian Grocery market in SA is very irregular and prices vary from shop to shop, we trying to change this.
We are one of its kinds who accept bitcoins, by giving people option to buy their curry powder by bit coins we trying to say that, it’s time to change the way we see and shop grocery.
Currently there is no online grocery shopping store, which is delivering within 48hrs. Most of the modern couple are working and they like the idea of fresh vegetables and food delivered direct to door.

Do you have an international strategy? If so, what is it?
In Future, we want to Expand our services to rest of the African countries.
Future Vision ?
We want India Store to become a complete store where one can order grocery, vegetable, food, ethnic wears, art and crafts, electronics all at one site.
